Eyecare Page 3
Eyecare, including eye cream, undereye patches or an undereye mask, is often overlooked. However, your eye area has specific needs as the skin is much thinner compared to the rest of your face and it’s constantly moving, so it needs a formula that goes beyond your usual moisturiser. Sunday Riley, Kiehl’s, and RéVive are just a handful of brands that are worth looking to for hydrating eye creams.

The skin around your eye area is thin and prone to dehydration, which is why it requires a hydrating eye cream to restore lost moisture. But, an eye cream is not your only option, eye serums are also excellent as they often contain potent actives that help with brightening and firming, while an eye balm is even more nourishing and ideal for anyone with very dry skin.
While the primary function of an eye cream is to moisturise, there are formulas that can help lift dark circles, ease puffiness, and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. If you have puffy eyes, look to gel formulas to refresh and depuff, while an eye balm is a good option if you want to plump out laughter lines – balms sit beautifully under makeup too. Try an eye mask if you want to brighten dark circles and boost of hydration.
Vitamin C is a common ingredient found in eye creams, eye balms, and eye serums, as it helps to brighten dark circles while providing some defence against environmental aggressors. If you’re feeling a little worn out, look for a product containing caffeine to boost circulation. A hydrating eye cream might contain hyaluronic acid, glycerin and squalane to top up moisture levels.
Almost everyone can use an eye cream. If you have very sensitive skin, you might want to stick with a hydrating eye cream and avoid active ingredients like vitamin C and retinol. If you are using a retinol to help soften lines, wrinkles or hyperpigmentation, then be sure to apply a broad-spectrum SPF to keep the delicate eye area protected.
You can use the same eyecare products in both your AM and PM skincare routines. Once you’ve cleansed, toned and applied your serum, use your chosen eye cream, eye balm, or eye serum. Dispense a pea-sized amount onto your fingertip, spread to both your ring fingers, and then gently pat around your eye area. Follow with your moisturiser and, if it’s morning, your SPF.
