SHOULD I WEAR SUNSCREEN EVERYDAY?

We’ve said it before and we’ll happily say it again – sunscreen is for every day of the year and not just for summer. And yes, it’s the same answer regardless of whether you’re based in a place that boasts a hot climate or live somewhere where clouds and rain are the norm for the most part of the year. We recommend not going below SPF30, and while we love that many face creams, primers, skin tints and foundations are now formulated with SPF, it’s still best to have a separate sunscreen formula. This is not only because sun rays age skin, but also because too much sun exposure can lead to severe eye and skin damage, and in some cases, cancer.

THE BEST SUNSCREENS FOR EVERY SKIN TYPE

We’ll be honest – finding a sunscreen that works for your skin type can be a mission. Firstly, you may want to get acquainted with the difference between chemical and mineral sunscreens. If you have oily, combination and acne-prone skin, look out for lightweight or gel formulas that are ideally labelled as oil-free, non-comedogenic and fragrance-free. Drier skin types can opt for richer textures – and if these are formulated with soothing and hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid and aloe vera, even better. As for sensitive skin? Mineral sunscreens that contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide tend to be less irritating to the skin – and keep an eye out for hydrating ingredients and hypoallergenic and fragrance-free formulas.
