4 Autumn Makeup Trends To Tap Into Right Now

While it’s vital to switch up your skincare routine for the new season, this can also be a great time to update your makeup routine. Whether you want to switch up your base or adding more colour, read on to learn more about this year’s autumn makeup trends if you’re in need of inspiration.
Minimal complexion, luminous skin
While light base makeup like skin tints is all the rage during the summer, it looks like we can keep them in our makeup bag this autumn and winter season. The key is to have barely-there complexion makeup that looks radiant and luminous. The ethereal look can be achieved with a dewy foundation, or by mixing a luminizer into your base.
Inspired by the Korean skincare concept of glass skin, lit-from-within skin is what this season will be all about. Makeup is important, but your skin prep is key to nailing this look. For skin that is well hydrated, we love Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream, £24.00 or Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte's Magic Cream, £28.00.

Tomboy blush
There’s no denying that blush is a staple for many beauty enthusiasts , no matter what time of the year it is. This autumn/winter, makeup artist Patrick Ta just debuted the blush trend of the season – Tomboy blush. Similar to the boyfriend blush trend, this blush look is all about having a soft, natural flush without being too precise about your blush placement.
To recreate the look, you’ll need to apply a powder blush first and then top it with a cream blush. This will help achieve a naturally-flushed look, to keep up with the skin-first approach of the season. We love that this works for everyone, and especially those who are unsure of what the best blush placement is for them, there's no doing it wrong.

Red And Berry Lips
Red, berry lips are always a staple for the autumn/winter season, and we love that you can go as bold as you want with this look. It’s the perfect way to complement a natural complexion and add dimension to the face. If you’re not used to bold lipstick shades and need to work your way into it, you can smudge a red or berry shade for a French ‘bitten lips’ look and gradually adapt a more intense look. You can also mix it with your favourite lip balm for the softest finish. In short – there are many ways to experiment and find your signature red lip.
In terms of the formula, you can go for something matte or something creamier, to hydrate your lips during the cooler months. We’re big fans of Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick, £28.00 and the new Nars Explicit Lipstick, £34.00.

Soft Grunge Eye Makeup
Metallic, smokey eyes were everywhere last autumn. This year we’re keeping things simple with a soft-smokey eye, using only one or two products.
We spoke to makeup artist Hollie Ellis for tips on how to achieve this look. “Apply your eyeliner right along the lashes. This doesn’t need to be neat as we will be going back in with a brush to smoke it out,” she says. “I also love to take the eyeliner underneath the roots of the lashes to create fuller looking lashes and to connect it to the top eyeliner so you can’t see any gaps.” We love the new KOSAS Soulgazer Intensifying Gel Eyeliner, £20.00, which comes with a smudger to make it easy. “Next, take your brush and buff the edges of the eyeliner to create a diffused smoky edge. In no time, you will have that quick and easy smokey eye ,” says Hollie.
Finish off the look with your favourite mascara to make your eyes pop even more – Hourglass Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara, £32.00 is always a great option.
