Warming Winter Scents To Give You The Feels
Warming winter scents are also a good option if you’re thinking of a fragrance gift. Often nostalgic; creamy vanilla, spicy black pepper and notes of patchouli, amber and frankincense are quickfire ways to transport you to scenes of open fires, cashmere loungewear and rustic landscapes. With plenty of winter perfumes to choose from at Space NK, here’s what we’ll be spritzing this season to give us those fuzzy feelings…
Sana Jardin
Tiger By Her Side, € 37,00
This has all the ingredients to make a winter scent. Cinnamon, amber, frankincense with a heart of Moroccan rose, it’s almost got a dustiness to it which would explain the warming essence it conjures up. A distinctive fragrance that will get people talking, it isn’t one for the faint-hearted but it is perfect for pairing with chunky knits as it won’t fade under your umpteen layers.
Creed
Centaurus Eau de Parfum, € 270,00
A spicy ensemble of cardamom, cinnamon and pink pepper from the established fragrance house, this new Creed perfume isn’t going to see you blend into the background (aromatically). With Bourbon vanilla at the base, along with creamy tonka bean and a hint of tobacco, the addition of jasmine and geranium lift it to give the scent an almost powdery-soft drydown. That said, it's the cinnamon that lingers, creating a cocooning energy that’s suitably apt for the winter months.
Floral Street
Ylang Ylang Espresso Eau de Parfum, € 48,00
If you like to warm up with a hot toddy or an Irish coffee in front of the fire, this creamy, intoxicating perfume is for you. With a unique tiramisu accord, patchouli, ylang ylang, espresso beans and rose, it pairs just as well with a cashmere sweater as it does a velvet jumpsuit. It also has a smokiness about it which stops it becoming too sweet and sickly.
Maison Margiela
By The Fireplace Eau de Toilette, € 71,00
Fireplace fragrances continue to grow in popularity, and this is designed to ‘replicate’ the smell of chestnuts roasting on an open fire. It probably wouldn’t be your first choice if you were picking a perfume for summer but at this time of year, the sooty wood, touch of vanilla and creamy chestnut notes make it moreish and somewhat addictive.
Byredo
Vanille Antique Eau de Parfum, € 322,00
Dark amber, syrupy vanilla and woody musk, combined with a hint of sweet plum creates a scent that has longevity, intrigue and for some an ‘antique’-esque finish. Enhanced by your skin’s own heat, it’s a bit like a comfort blanket – providing familiarity in a bold new world. Pricewise, it’s an investment but a little goes a long way.
Diptyque
Tempo Eau de Parfum, € 175,95
Patchouli is something of a ‘heady’ herbaceous aroma that’s got more than a touch of incense vibes to it. This fragrance is an ode to the woody warmth the plant brings and contains not one, but three patchouli extracts from Indonesia. Sophisticated and soothing, it’s earthy and rich and definitely suits the winter season best.
Jo Loves
Black Cashmeran & Tonka Perfume, € 121,00
Described as rich and velvety, it’s the ginger in this that gives it an almost festive twist. Granted, you can’t define the smell of luxury, but this comes pretty close, especially with the addition of black cashmeran and creamy tonka bean. Spritz on for instant glamour, whether you’re hunkering down or going out.
Aesop
Virēre Eau de Parfum, € 130,00
Not everyone wants a heavy scent for winter and if you prefer your perfume without vanilla, this is a worthy candidate. It still has the warming cedar and pink pepper intwined in its fragrance layers, but there’s the addition of bergamot and petitgrain which give it a citrussy twist and a fresher finish. A mood booster even on the chilliest of days.
