As well as multi-tasking like a pro (Netflix-ing, bathing and beautifying at once is her thing) blogger and Instagrammer Poppy Deyes has her Sunday night routine down pat. As well as including all of her Space NK favourites read on to discover her must-have sleep products and the mask she relies on for a little end of week TLC…
The Wind Down
Sunday afternoons are all about the wind down! Prepping for the week ahead, whilst getting my pamper on usually means I’m multi-tasking…which usually involves a bit of food prep and face-masking! You will forever find me doing the washing, catching up on blog posts or making dinner with a face mask on! There’s no benchmark as to when it happens but I do like to be in full pamper mode by early evening so I can get at least two episodes of Orange Is The New Black in whilst doing my skincare routine. My beauty routine is super important, it means I’m starting my Monday with lots of positivity and I feel that extra bit prepared and relaxed before the busyness begins. I obviously love seeing positive results, but I find the routine and how it makes me feel equally as important. I generally feel refreshed on a Sunday night, they are my “get stuff done” days, so, if all goes to plan I’m usually feeling extra pampered and excited for the week ahead. I find it harder during the week to switch off as I’m someone who works really well at night, but on weekends I find it much easier to have head space and therefore relax a little more. My routine starts in the bathroom before heading to bed to listen to an audio book whilst putting on a night treatment. I love candles and end up lighting them all year round; for the scent, and the atmosphere, candles are a key part of my wind down routine. I usually go for something super calming, like the This Works Deep Sleep Heavenly Candle or something really fresh like the Commodity Orris Candle. I don’t listen to any specific music but there is a Spotify playlist called ‘The Stress Buster’ which is kind of my all rounder playlist that I always turn to, and is actually perfect if you’re after something a little more chilled.
The Routine
Sundays are generally all about ‘me-time’ which means double masking, double cleansing and extra long soaks in the bath. It’s all about that dedicated downtime that is solely just for you before the week begins. My skin is usually quite dry so I’m all about the hydration and this is definitely reflected in the products I use. I’m all about that glow! At the minute I’m loving the Oskia Renaissance Cleaning Gel, it’s a product that I’m forever going back to time and time again. I’ve recently discovered Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Dew it All Eye Gel which is fantastic and seems to be working wonders on my tired eyes! I also have a recent love for the Sunday Riley Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream, which keeps my skin feeling super hydrated and plump. If you’ve not tried the Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque you’re missing out. I love it for when my skin needs a little or a lot of TLC, and it always leaves me feeling extra moisturised. I’m definitely someone who loves to try new products. Although I have my core favourites I’m always on the look out for what’s new and what people are talking about! Herbivore are a brand I’ve only recently discovered and I’m loving every single product of theirs right now… Their Moon Fruit Superfruit Night Treatment is an addition that I’ve been using every night and am totally hooked on.
As obvious as it may sound, Sundays are all about having an extra long, extra indulgent bath. Give me all the bath oils, all the body scrubs and all the time to soak whilst watching Netflix! Like I said, I’m big on multi-tasking at every opportunity so, popping your favourite series on whilst in the tub is the perfect time to let your face mask dry — win win! Although I love trying new products I will always have an edited down version on the bath side, my fave, reachable evening must-haves. A couple of bath time favourites are the Laura Mercier Fresh Fig Honey Bath and the This Works Deep Sleep Bath Soak. Both are perfect for when you need a little downtime before an early night, and they really do leave you feeling super sleepy and relaxed. I’ve had my eye on the Susanne Kaufmann Mallow Blossom Bubble Bath for a little while now so think I’m gonna have to give it a go. I know it’s massively frowned upon but I usually wash my hair every day. I know, I know, but I just love the feeling of it being all fresh and swishy and it definitely leaves me feeling ready for the day. I love haircare, so have a few fave brands that I regularly use, IGK and Oribe being just some of them. On a Sunday I usually add in the IGK Low Key Cleansing Walnut Scalp Scrub, or their Rich Kid Coconut Oil Gel Air-Dry Styler… Both are bloody incredible, and leave your hair feeling so light and fresh. On Sundays I usually leave it to towel dry, as I have more time and am not in any rush.
Bedtime
I’m big on my pre-sleep routine, I love it almost as much as my skincare one. I’m all about the pillow spray, the This Works Sleep Plus Pillow Spray being my absolute fave, and I also have a diffuser that I switch on for around an hour every night before I go to bed too. Basically, give me all the calm! I usually aim to be in bed by 10:30pm ish, I then listen to an audio book or catch up on a series I’m watching before nodding off. If I really can’t sleep I’ll listen to the Calm app which is really helpful. It’s especially great for jet lag, or when you’ve had a really full-on day and need to switch off. Water is my thing. I’ve tried a number of different night-time teas but am yet to find one that I love, and so instead just make sure I drink water before bed and in the morning. I’m someone who is always quite set on getting my eight hours. I can definitely still be productive on less, but am a little happier if I’ve had my eight! Once I’m asleep I’m actually a pretty deep sleeper, it’s probably down to the fact I pump our bedroom full of lavender in every product form, but it seems to do the job!
Monday Morning
I’m an awful snooze-button-hitter so I usually set it for around 6:45am and then I’m up latest at around 7:30am. I’ve tried to be more of a morning person but it just doesn’t come naturally to me! I like to be at my desk for as close to 9am as possible so it just depends if I have bits to catch up on before. Honestly, I’m a big Monday fan. I love the feeling of a fresh week and am usually excited to start it. The first thing I do is brush my teeth, then I wash my face and drink a big ol’ glass of water!
