Everything You Need To Know About ILIA's New Complexion Stick
Well, that interest soon turned into kiddish excitement when ILIA Skin Rewind Complexion Stick landed at our desks ahead of its official launch. Available in an incredible range of 42 light, medium and deep shades, this skincare-makeup hybrid with a soft-matte finish promises to be much more than a foundation.
It doubles as a concealer (or even contour stick), is non-comedogenic (as in, specifically designed to not clog pores) and has been formulated with a host of ingredients (ceramide-peptide complex, butterfly lavender extract and kelp extract) to help strengthen the skin barrier, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and even reverse signs of ageing. Not to mention that it’s lightweight and can stay seamless for up to 12 hours!
To put this promising theory into practice, we asked three people from the Space NK team to test this new product and give us their first impressions – here are their honest thoughts and ILIA Skin Rewind Complexion Stick reviews…
MADDY’S ILIA SKIN REWIND COMPLEXION STICK REVIEW
• Skin type: Normal, leaning towards sensitivity
• Skin tone: Light with warm undertones
• The product: Ilia Beauty Skin Rewind Complexion Stick, € 56,00 in 8W Bamboo
I stopped using foundations years ago and now stick to skin tints, as I like light to medium coverage. I prefer a formula that enhances, not hides – I want my skin look like my skin, but better! This is very much part of ILIA’s philosophy, and this new launch sounded like something that would be right up my alley.
I applied it directly onto my face after my skincare and blended it with my base brush. It went on so smoothly with my brush and melted into my skin! It also sat so nicely under my bronzer and blush. It seems very buildable – I used a generous amount, and it gave me a very natural, perfect light to medium coverage. I found it very long-lasting too – I put it on before work and took it off when I got home. I’m going to keep using it as I love it – I’d say it’s great for anyone that is after a natural makeup look that doesn’t like heavy or full coverage foundations.
HANITRA’S ILIA SKIN REWIND COMPLEXION STICK REVIEW
• Skin type: Oily and acne-prone
• Skin tone: Medium
• The product: Ilia Beauty Skin Rewind Complexion Stick, € 56,00 in 18N Hawthorn
While I want a base that will hide my hyperpigmentation and even out my skin tone, I don’t normally opt for full coverage – I still want my skin to look like skin, which is what ILIA is all about.
I applied the Complexion Stick directly onto my skin and then tried blending it in with Beautyblender The Original Beauty Blender, € 20,00 on one side, and Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Brush, € 59,00 on the other. I liked how the brush worked with this formula – it blended it in without picking up too much product.
The coverage was a lot sheerer than I expected – but you can build it up for more of a medium coverage. It did a good job at covering some of my pigmentation, but I needed extra help from my concealer to get the coverage I wanted. The second time I used it, I let the formula set for a few seconds before blending it in – I feel like that helped with having better coverage. The coverage decreased overtime – but this is something I experience with most complexion products. I also felt like the formula pilled during the day, which may have been because of my skincare underneath.
TANYA’S ILIA SKIN REWIND COMPLEXION STICK REVIEW
• Skin type: Dry
• Skin tone: Deep
• The product: Ilia Beauty Skin Rewind Complexion Stick, € 56,00 in 36C Padauk
Because my skin is of a drier disposition, I like oil-based or water-based foundation formulas that will, most importantly, leave my complexion with a glowing finish. I actually barely use foundation sticks, so I was very intrigued about the outcome.
I applied it straight after my moisturiser, face oil and serum, and used a sponge I had initially soaked in warm water. It took me a few strokes to get the full coverage I desired, although once I’d finished applying it, I didn’t find myself using any concealer.
It lasted all day – no topping up or correcting was needed. I’m going to add it to my ‘on the go’ routine; it will save me from making a mess with liquid foundations when I’m in a rush! I’d recommend this to people who like to wear makeup on a daily basis but want something fuss-free and speedy.
THE VERDICT ON ILIA SKIN REWIND COMPLEXION STICK
All the girls loved the ease of the Complexion Stick, and agreed that it’s perfect for those on the go or who want something they can apply quickly and easily in the morning. “It’s easy to use, easy to travel with, and I find it easier to target specific areas of my skin that need the most coverage,” says Hanitra. However, Hanitra does prefer the glowing finish she gets from the ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint. “It makes my skin glow all day long,” she says.
“I think the Complexion Stick also works well for those who like to only spot conceal for their makeup, as it’s really easy to apply on those specific areas. I’ll keep using it, but it won’t be my first choice daily, as I prefer more coverage. Still – it’s a great ‘no makeup’ makeup product to have at hand,” she concludes.
