Briogeo vs. Olaplex: Which Is Better?
Why Briogeo Is The Best Haircare Range
Behind The Brand: Briogeo has been leading the way in terms of clean, natural hair care for some time. Founded by Nancy Twine in 2013, the brand has gone from strength to strength. Nancy is no stranger to formulating beauty products and as a child used to help her grandmother make homemade haircare. After moving to the Big Apple and realising a lot of products in the natural haircare category missed the mark, Briogeo was born.
Why I Love It: Unlike some brands, Briogeo talks to your hair type rather than your ethnicity and it caters for everyone, from 1-4C. The formulas are free from sulfates and silicones, yet the shampoos still foam, and the treatments still leave your hair feeling soft and smooth. Plus, the products smell incredible and look fabulous in your bathroom. I love the Superfoods collection; the formulas all smell incredible from Apple Matcha to the Mango Cherry. Banana & Avocado is my personal fave as the formula is super hydrating and nourishing. I have curly 3C/4A and the conditioner makes it super easy for me to detangle my hair, and leaves it looking and feeling healthy and shiny. The tropical banana scent is an added bonus in my opinion.
Briogeo’s Hero Product: Without a doubt, it’s Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask, £ 15,00. It has been one of our top three hair masks year after year at Space NK since launch. I use this it bi-weekly to keep my hair strong and protect against breakage.
The Formula You Should Try First: Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Cooling Hydration Scalp Mask, £ 30,00 has been selling like hot cakes. Scalp health has been a hot topic within the hair community over the past year and this product is perfect for gently exfoliating and giving your scalp some TLC. I tend to use this once a month when I do a deep cleanse or if I’m due to have my hair braided – it helps guard against a flaky or itchy scalp.
Why Olaplex Is The Best Haircare Range
Behind The Brand: Dean and Darcy Christal revolutionised the haircare industry in 2014 from a garage in California. The pair created the ‘invention’, AKA the bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate ingredient that helps to rebuild broken bonds that have been damaged by colouring or heated styling. The patented technology is infused into every single Olaplex formula to deliver maximum results.
Why I Love It: Regardless of your hair type, texture or colour, the range helps to repair the bonds and restore your locks to all their glory. As someone with thick, frizzy hair that bears the brunt of a pair of straighteners daily, Olaplex’s hydrating and smoothing formulas still manage to leave my hair with that light, sleek feeling usually only achieved by hairdressers. I also really appreciate the simplicity of the line-up. Rather than endless options, you have a game-changing pre-shampoo treatment, a stellar shampoo, a nourishing conditioner and the most exceptional hair oil (there’s more, but these are my favourites). Plus, my friends with finer hair and colleagues who live for bleached balayage also rave about the results.
Olaplex’s Hero Product: If you regularly have your hair coloured or bleached, your hairdresser has probably already recommended . It is a bestselling beauty product among Space NK customers and both the 100ml and 250ml make our top sellers. Apply it to damp hair, or after the No.0 Intensive Bond Treatment, wait 20 minutes and then shampoo as usual.
The Formula You Should Try First: Olaplex No.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask is the perfect entry point into the brand. Unlike No.3, you use it like you would a traditional hair mask, after your shampoo. The smooth, shiny results will have you converted to the full range after just one use, I promise.
Briogeo vs. Olaplex: The Verdict
Finding the right haircare range for you makes life much easier – we’ve all used a shampoo that doesn’t quite hit the spot and had to repeat the process with another formula. As we’ve said, Briogeo and Olaplex are bestselling haircare brands for us, so you can’t go wrong with either of them. Both deliver on the promises pasted on their packaging and will leave your hair feeling soft and healthy. However, if you want plenty of choice in terms of textures and scents, go forth and explore Briogeo’s array of hard-working formulas. If you’d rather have a straightforward, streamlined approach, you’ll appreciate Olaplex’s no-nonsense line-up.
