What are the flavours and shades of Glossier Balm Dotcom?

As well as the ‘Original’ formula, which is completely fragrance and tint-free, there are eight versions of Balm Dotcom available: Wild Fig, Lavendar, Mango, Birthday, Rose, Mint, Coconut, and Strawberry – all of which have a slightly different flavour, finish and, in some cases, a barely-there tint.

One of the first ever products launched by the brand, this distinctive tube quickly became a staple for beauty editors, influencers and all-round beauty enthusiasts. It’s a formula that seems to work for many, but does it ultimately live up to the hype? We asked some of our Space NK team members to share their honest thoughts on Glossier Balm Dotcom, which maintains its original formula – keep scrolling to see their Glossier Balm Dotcom reviews…

HANITRA’S GLOSSIER BALM DOTCOM REVIEW

Shade reviewed: Glossier Balm Dotcom Lip Balm in Original, £16.00

Hanitra's Glossier Balm Dotcom Review - Before And After | Space NK
Hanitra before and after applying Glossier Balm Dotcom

For the most part, my lips don’t get very dry. But I absolutely love my lip balms, lip masks and lip oils. I have about three to five in all my bags, because I’m afraid to leave the house without one! Which is why I don’t really have a go-to – I’ll just use whatever is in my bag or on my desk. But in general, I like a formula that feels rich without being sticky.

I hadn’t used Glossier Balm Dotcom in a while and was excited to revisit it for this review. The first thing I noticed was that it was a lot thicker than I remembered it to be. When Glossier first launched, I had the flavour ‘Birthday’ and I remember I found the consistency very interesting and unique.

I don’t think I found myself reapplying it more often than I usually would, but I definitely felt like I had to reapply after drinking coffee or having food. On most days, I’d use it by itself – sometimes I dabbed a little bit of lipstick on top. It’s actually a very nice product to prime your lips with before applying any colour.

It’s very thick and very nourishing – it doesn’t just hydrate on the surface. I can safely say it has made its way into my lip balm rotation. I also really like that I can use it on any dry skin areas, I think it will be really nice on my cuticles or any dry patches during the winter.

VANESSA’S GLOSSIER BALM DOTCOM REVIEW

Shade reviewed: Glossier Balm Dotcom Lip Balm in Birthday, £16.00

Vanessa's Glossier Balm Dotcom Review - Before And After | Space NK
Vanessa before and after applying Glossier Balm Dotcom

Despite having an oily complexion, my lips have always been very, very dry. So, as well as drinking lots of water, lip balms are an absolute daily essential for me. I also wear some form of lip colour every day, so a lip balm that can sit well under (and over, when I need to reapply!) my many lipsticks is a huge plus.

I’m very attached to my Tatcha Camellia Gold Spun Lip Balm, £30.00 – I’ve been using it for almost a decade and won’t go anywhere without it. I also love Dr. Dennis Gross DermInfusions Plump + Repair Lip Treatment, £46.00 – not only does it plump my lips, but it’s also wonderfully hydrating. It’s fair to say these are my lip care holy grails, and I’ll rarely stray away from them!

However, like any millennial beauty lover I’ve always had a soft spot for Glossier – so it’s no surprise that there is indeed a Glossier Balm Dotcom in my lip care collection. I use the flavour Birthday – I love its sweet taste, and even though I would never wear a lip balm on its own, I do like that it has a shimmery finish. It has quite a thick consistency, but it still layers well under many of my liquid lipstick formulas. I even found that it would work with some of my bullet lipsticks if I just waited a few minutes to apply these.

Ultimately, it’s hydrating effect just isn’t as long-lasting as I would like it to be – I do find that, in comparison to other formulas, my lips are a little bit dryer at the end of the day when I’ve used this. But like I said – my lips are, unfortunately, very dry, and I know other people wouldn’t necessarily have this issue. I’ll definitely continue to use it – I love that it’s so easy to reapply and it does the job on days when I’m being good and drinking lots of water.

ELEANOR’S GLOSSIER BALM DOTCOM REVIEW

Shade reviewed: Glossier Balm Dotcom Lip Balm in Mango, £16.00

As someone with fairly dry lips, I’m deeply passionate about lip balms and use them every day. I've tried many, many lip balms and I’d like to think I know a good lip balm.

I’ll match my lip balms to my mood and what I’m doing, and there will always be at least three in my bag. I’ll have one that’s thick with little to no scent, another one that’s thinner and glossier, and then my beloved Mango Balm Dotcom. It’s the perfect thickness and leaves the right level of gloss and smoothness, without being sticky or too heavy.

Overall, I think Glossier Balm Dotcoms are really good lip balms for every occasion; the texture is perfect and the tinted ones leave a very subtle wash of colour. I love the different flavours and pretty packaging – they’re so collectible!

I've been using Mango Balm Dotcom for over five years, and I have no plans to stop using it. If I'm out in the evening, I love layering Glossier Ultralip High Shine Lipstick in Fete, £22.00 on top of it – it knocks back the saturation, makes it a bit more glossy and creates a lovely tinted lip look.

How long does Glossier Balm Dotcom last?

Both Eleanor and Hanitra feel that Glossier Balm Dotcom hydrates for a good period of time. However, Vanessa, who does struggle with very dry lips, didn’t find the formula hydrating enough throughout the day, and felt like she would have to reapply it frequently when not wearing a lip colour over it.

The Verdict on Glossier Balm Dotcom

Whether it’s the hydrating effect, the rich finish or the flavours, this Glossier lip balm really is a staple for some of our lip balm loving Space NK team members, with both Hanitra and Eleanor having it in their everyday lip balm collection!

The Pros: The team overall agree that the thickness and consistency of Glossier Balm Dotcom is good, and that it keeps lips hydrated. Hanitra loves the fact that it can be used on other dry patches on the body. “You can tell that it’s a universal salve rather than an ordinary lip balm that you would only use on your lips,” she says.

Who is it not suitable for: If, like Vanessa, you have extremely dry lips, you might not find this lip balm hydrating enough.
