You might love chypre fragrances without even realising. Typically warm and woody with citrusy top notes and hints of floral, the word ‘chypre’ actually translates to ‘Cyprus’ in French and as such, it’s a fragrance category inspired by ingredients native to that island. “They’re fragrances based on the accord of chypre which tends to be oakmoss, labdanum and bergamot,” explains David Seth from D.S & Durga.

Patchouli is another common note you’ll find nestled within a chypre scent profile. Giving the perfumes that warm incense-like aroma, it also pairs beautifully with those lush green and citrusy scents that you’d find on the Mediterranean island.
